Let's Share Germs

Should employees who go to work ill give up their vacation time as sick leave if their coworkers catch their illness?

Ugh!

The rhinovirus has invaded my body. Ugh! This unwarranted invasion has given me the common cold. Ugh!

I took some medication this morning, but all it does is allow me to breathe. What good is breathing if my brain feels like it's been replaced by a huge cotton ball? Ugh!

At first I thought I may have caught this cold from William. However, a new girl started last week and she came to work coughing and hacking. YUCK! If you are sick, keep them germs and viruses at your house. Don't bring them in the workplace or school to share with the rest of us. That's just plain NASTEEE!

One of my coworkers had a very radical but brilliant idea. He said if you come to work ill and others catch your illness, then you should give up your vacation time as sick leave for the coworkers you made ill. I love that idea. What do you think?

I'm going to bed now. I know it's 10:16 am, but Good Night!

Today is Monday, January 28

and I am thankful:

  • that I can still write about being thankful
  • for comedy. I am up late watching Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling. Yes, it is more drama than comedy, however I am thankful that I can laugh at things in life. I am thankful that I am not so stuck up that I do not find humor in life.
  • for medicine for my sick son. Allan had a fever and it seems that the Tylenol and Motrin broke it. I pray he is well enough to go to school today.

American corporations are always thinking of new ways to take our money, rape us, steal from us. They have even gotten laws passed in an effort to give it to us in the azz.

While I appreciate the efforts of many well meaning bloggers, tonight I am really not in the mood to do anything about the issues they bring up.

Buddhist Thought For The Day

Let your love flow outward through the universe, To its height, its depth, its broad extent, A limitless love, without hatred or enmity. Then as you stand or walk, Sit or lie down, As long as you are awake, Strive for this with a one-pointed mind; Your life will bring heaven to earth. – Sutta Nipata

Very interesting. I think this quote is on the path to loving completely.

Two From The Kennedy's

Senator Edward Kennedy plans to endorse Barack Obama.

Carline Kennedy said Obama will be a President like her father.

His victory speech after the SC Primary was inspirational to me.

At your personal best, what kind of change in the grand scheme of things are you capable of?

Another Necklace

I got one for Christmas.

Doug called it a nice accent against my skin.

It came in a leather binder. I think it’s pretty.

7 Days Left

and I have not even tackled Day 15. Well, FlyLady says it will take longer than 30 days to complete the baby steps.

I’m not killing myself over it. William had a cold last week. He was sweet enough to kiss me on my lips and kindly give me his cold.

This morning Allan had a fever. I gave him some Motrin and now he’s better, but I know it’s temporary.

Life as a single parent is NO JOKE man.

I Need A Nap

Day 2 of Walking

was the day before yesterday. Wednesday.

On Tuesday I walked with Charles.
On Wednesday I walked with Sandra.

On Thursday (yesterday) I spent four hours (1-2-3-4) fricken hours at Moncrief Army Community Hospital with William. My day was shot.

Oh yeah, William has a cold. The doctor gave me some cold symptom medicine and we went home.

I have no idea how I am going to fit it in today. I have errands to run on my lunch hour. A friend made an appointment to spend time with me this evening. She said she misses me and and since I am so busy she needs to make an appointment for my time.

I just may convince her to go someplace warm to walk with me this evening. We shall see.

6. Sandra Bullock

“I love humor. I always will fall back on humor. That’s something that I think you can’t ever get enough of and, if it’s done well, it’s great. When it’s bad, it’s horrible.”
- Sandra Bullock

I absolutely LOVE Sandra Bullock. She can play a wide range of roles and be believable. She is a wonderful, charming, talented, and beautiful actress.

“Women are like ovens. We need 5 to 15 minutes to heat up.”
- Sandra Bullock

I’ve noticed that she also has great chemistry with Keanu Reeves. They did Speed and The Lake House together. I loved The Lake House. I bought it for myself. I may watch that this weekend. Hmmmmm…

One thing I admire about Sandra is that when she moved to the Big Apple, she enrolled in intensive acting classes while also working as a bartender. Sandra was a bartender for three years while she worked hard at achieving her dream of becoming an actress. Sandra went to every casting call and audition she could.

Sandra got five film roles in ‘93. 1-2-3-4-5. WOW! Her most noticeable film of that year was Demolition Man with costars Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes.

Sandra also she beat out Hollywood heavyweight Demi Moore for the leading role in While You Were Sleeping. In 1996’s A Time To Kill (1996), she began earning a seven-digit salary.

I love the fact that Sandra began her own production company called Fortis Films. Her first project was Hope Floats (1998), starring Harry Connick Jr. and Gena Rowlands. I thought Hope Floats was a very cute movie despite what the funky critics may think. Shoot, I’m a critic. I also liked when she starred opposite Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic. Very smart move Sandra. Another good movie I might add.

In 2004, Sandra appeared in a completely different role as a racist in the Academy Award-winning movie Crash. Again, another believable performance by Ms. Bullock.

She’s funny, spunky, talented, gorgeous, and doin da dang thang! Go Sandra!

Every time I see Gotham City on TV, it is always gloomy and dark. Smallville gets sunshine. Does Gotham City ever have a bright and sunny day?

Day 13 - Kelly's Mission

The Fly Lady doesn’t want us to copy stuff from her site. So no more post it note photos.

I did everything, even Kelly’s mission. You never know where you will end up. I ended up in the bedroom today. Yay me! I love the bedroom.

BTW, that is not my bedroom. Just the one I want.

I Did It!!!

Yes I did.

Granted it has been cold in the mornings and evenings. So, I decided to walk for 30 minutes during my lunch hour.

I get an hour for lunch, so I ate the first 30 minutes and walked the last 30 minutes.

One day down, 29 more to go.

From Wikipedia

The free enclyclopedia.

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.

I am up late or early watching Last Days on Earth on The History Channel. Global Warming was listed as the number one threat to humanity and life on earth. Wow!

If I, little ole me, make one minor change a day in my life, it will pass on to my children and grandchildren. One day at a time. I have to be more responsible with the little patch of Earth that I have been blessed to occupy.

What are you doing?

Day 12 - Deleting Email

That was tough because I had mail in my box from her since April 2006.

Folks, please delete your mail daily.

Day 11 - Inspirational Page

Today I was suppose to spend 15 minutes writing down some of my favorite inspirational phrases.

Ok, I wrote an entire long quote.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

That is my favorite inspirational quote. I had to do it.

This is how I felt about TJ...

When he was born. He is my first born. When he was born and during his first few days, I couldn’t get enough of this song. I wanted to raise him to be the best man ever. I still do.

Soul Provider – Michael Bolton

Talk about love, talk about trust
Talkin’ ‘bout forever baby
When I’m talkin’ ‘bout us
I give you my word, stick to my guns
Believe when I tell ya baby
That we’ve just begun

You don’t understand, no
The full intent of my plan

[Chorus:]
I wanna be your soul provider
I wanna stay that way
For the longest time
I wanna be, your soul provider
Just say you’ll let me
And darlin’ I will

I know you’ve been hurt, I know you’re love shy
You don’t have to say it baby
It’s gonna take some time
Ya got my heart, in the palm of your hand
Swear it’s gonna stay there baby
Give me half a chance

You don’t understand
The full intent of my plan

I’ve been waitin’ for a long time for somebody like you
To give my love, all my love day and night
Just say you’ll be mine for the rest of your life
Baby I’ll show you why

[Chorus]

Me - Unoriginal

I was perusing other people’s blogs the other day when I ran across Misty’s Words. I loved her blog. I thought it was quite cute and nice and Original.

Misty wrote an entry about Smorty. She said she loved working with them and the pay was pretty good too.

So, I decided to check them out. Well, I applied. They reviewed my blog. Then today I received an email that said I was declined because:

Dear Keala Jacobs, Unfortunately your blog was declined due to the following reason(s). Some of the content is not original Once you fix these errors you can re-enter your blog(s) from your admin panel under the My Account section. Smorty

Yes, some of my content is not original. Well, my blog is ME. I post what I want when I want. If Mama sends me an email I like, I will post it. Maybe that is the unoriginal content they were referring to.

Anyway, Keala will continue to blog her way. Not the Smorty way.

NOT

I did NOT walk for 30 minutes last night.

When I got home it was COLD, dark, and late.

When I woke up this morning it was COLD, dark, and way too early.

Ewww. I hate this weather.

I could go to the gym and walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill. That would work!

The Brightest Color Is YELLOW

Take this test!
People who have Yellow as their brightest color of their aura are usually very cerebral. Their ideal job may have a complicated mental component that requires them to continuously learn new things. In general, their positive attitude can bring them success.

In their love lives, they probably like a lot of variety. For instance, they may enjoy a partner who exposes them to new ideas and experiences and isn't afraid to be a little adventurous. They bring a unique pairing of optimism and logic to their romantic relationships, which means they're more prone to talking things through calmly, without emotional outbursts or catastrophic thinking.

Their good attitude and overall flexibility leads them to feel pretty good about life, and this helps them get along well with others and take great care of themselves.

Stats from SisterCare

75% of women killed by their husbands were attempting to leave or getting a divorce.

A woman is six times more likely to be assaulted by her husband than by a stranger.

Approximately one half of all couples experience at least one violent incident; in one fourth of these couples, violence is a common occurrence.

25% of women who are beaten are pregnant.

Over 70% of the children whose mothers are battered are physically abused, too.

Food for Thought

Want to get a jump-start on knowing more about food and eating patterns in general? Take a look at Tickle's 14-point tip sheet.

#1
Most fruit juices contain more sugar than actual fruit. So don't fool yourself. While drinking juice in moderation is a great way to meet some of your recommended daily requirements for vitamins, some juices are better than others. Things to watch out for? Be leery of juices that list high fructose corn syrup high on their nutritional labels.

# 2
Fiber expands in your stomach and leaves you satisfied long after eating. Look at food labels and compare them - try to pick items that have higher amounts of fiber.

# 3
Next time you're feeling like you want to eat something, drink a glass of water and see if you're still hungry. We often mistake being thirsty for being hungry.

#4
Having trouble drinking enough water during the day? A tall glass of lukewarm water is easier to drink than a tall glass of ice-cold water.

#5
Most restaurant portions of food are actually appropriate for two people. Consider ordering appetizers as main dishes, or sharing a single portion with a fellow diner.

#6
Buying individually sized snacks or treats reduces your chances of bingeing.

#7
Slow Down: It takes 15-20 minutes for your mind and body to register how full you really are.

#8
Stress can make you fat! Research has shown that cortisol, a stress hormone, leads to cravings for carbohydrates and overeating.

#9
Not a license to binge: Low-fat or reduced-fat foods often contain a lot of sugar and calories.

#10
Increase your calcium by eating dark green leafy vegetables.

#11
Couch Potato Syndrome: Never take a bag of food with you while sitting on the couch. Pour out a single serving size in a bowl instead.

#12
People who skip breakfast typically end up consuming more calories by the end of the day.

#13
Get some ZZZs: Lack of sleep leads to a slowed down metabolism.

#14
Are you drinking your calories? Cocktails, soft drinks, smoothies and special coffee drinks are the new high calorie culprits.

My Eating Style

Take this test!
Relaxed Eaters understand that food is about more than just sustenance. Overall, they treat themselves well. Even if they're not always successful at it, having sit-down meals three times a day is your ideal. They also try to be regular with their portions and the times that they eat on a day-to-day basis. At first, this may sound like they have a common pattern. Their eating style is, in fact, extremely sensible and their priorities seem to be in order when it comes to food.
