Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

Annabel Lee

BY EDGAR ALLAN POE
It was many and many a year ago,
   In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
   By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
   Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
   In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
   I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
   Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
   In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
   My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
   And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
   In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
   Went envying her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
   In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
   Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
   Of those who were older than we—
   Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in Heaven above
   Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
   Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
   In her sepulchre there by the sea—
   In her tomb by the sounding sea.

I've always loved this poem.  One of my teachers made us memorize this.  I do not remember which teacher it was or when, but I'm so glad I memorized it.  I love this love he talks about in this poem.  They were children and their love was so strong the Angels envied them.  I want that kind of love.

Severe Thunderstorms

Good Morning,

Er, Toto, we might as well be in Kansas… . A very strong low pressure complex to the west heads east leaving a very violent history across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana. Mississippi and Kentucky. More severe thunderstorms and tornadoes today for Northern Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. Timing and dynamics, however, are in our favor…. again. The Storm Prediction Center in tornado-wise Oklahoma has a large HIGH-MODERATE probability bulls-eye to the west of us and only a slight chance for severe for the State today valid until tomorrow morning. Best ingredients for widespread severe weather outbreaks translate northeast into NC and VA.

Expect afternoon non-frontal airmass thunderstorms to develop this afternoon in the warm soupy air in place (think bucket of gasoline and toaster…). Isolated cells will be severe with 50-70 mph wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain and frequent lightning. Charming. This activity de-energizes near sunset.

The cold front to the west approaches the Upstate tonight with pre-frontal thunderstorms around midnight. The front enters the Upstate in the dark  near 2-3 AM, Midlands 05-08 AM with strong shear but diminishing  convective available potential energy. Isolated embedded strong to severe thunderstorm with damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, hail and an isolated tornado are fair game, although not with the swarm of tornadoes seen to the west. Models are showing the front slowing as it closes the coast late Thursday, re-strengthening to severe storms over the beaches on max afternoon heating.

33 shopping days until hurricane season.

Please Help

Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, my sister passed away yesterday.  I have received many messages of condolences and offers of support from many of you.

My brother and I will be flying out of Charlotte to Alexandria LA tomorrow.  We need help with our airfare.  The bereavement rates are around $490 per person.  I found a cheaper rate at Hotwire.com.  Please send me a private message if you are willing to help and can help.

Thanks again and much love,
Keala

How Much More Can I Take?

I'm so tired of the loss.  I really am.

My dad died March 16, 2009.
My best friend and cousin died April 3, 2010.
My sister died April 12, 2011!

Am I to expect someone close to me to die every year here after?  I am so sick of this assault on my family and the people I love.

Dear Lord,
Please don't take away any more of my family members in the next few years, including myself.  I'm tired of saying good bye to people I love so much.  I don't want to miss another family member and sit and reminisce about the times we shared.  I'm too tired for that.  Please give us more time together.

I was so blessed to have these beautiful people touch my life.  John Brown filled me with so much of his love that I couldn't feel a gaping hole in my heart when he left.  When he left me, he left so much of him inside of me I am so blessed to have had him in my life.  So blessed to have been his first born.  So blessed.
Timothy was my introduction to what little boys are made of.  Frogs and snails and puppy dog tails.  That's what little boys are made of.  We got into mischief at Grandma's together.  I'm not sure if he started the mischief or if I started it.  Whoever started it, we enjoyed the fun and punishment together.  We were very competitive too.  My Ace!  My main mayne MAN.  RIP Dude!

Kathy Gamble was The Beautiful One!  I believe when Prince wrote that song he had her in mind.  I was jealous of her because I thought she stole my mom from me.  Little did I know that Mom had enough love for both of us.  Kathy was such a fragile soul.  She was easy to love and easy to hate at the same time.  You never had to question where you stood with her because she always made it clear.  Love me some Kathy.  She was way too young to leave this place and way too young to suffer the way she suffered.  I pray she is at complete peace now.  She deserves to have love peace and Heaven.

VICTORY: Goodbye, Glenn Beck!

Thanks to members like you

Glenn Beck's television program is finally coming to an end!

Dear Keala,

Our community just won an important and hard-fought victory. After more than 285,000 people spoke out, leading to a loss of over 300 advertisers from his top-rated show, Glenn Beck's program on Fox News Channel will come to an end this year.1

This is huge. Beck's record of race-baiting is virtually unsurpassed among mainstream media figures, and Fox News has continued to give him a platform -- until now.

We launched our campaign against Beck in July of 2009 after he topped a week of race-baiting directed at President Obama with the most stunning statement of them all—he called Obama a "racist" who has "a deep-seated hatred for white people, or the white culture."

Within days we approached Fox News' advertisers, asking them to stop supporting Beck's poisonous statements with their dollars. Nearly 300,000 people signed statements that we presented to advertisers. Thousands of others made phone calls when our staff's calls and member comments weren't enough. Within weeks, dozens of advertisers dropped the show. In the end, more than 300 advertisers decided that Beck was too much of a liability and requested that their commercials not be shown during Beck's program.

In their statement announcing the shift, Fox News trumpeted Beck's ratings success. In reality, Beck's audience and ratings have been on the decline. Fox has also steadily refused to admit the obvious impact that the loss of more than 300 blue chip advertisers has on their bottom line. Beck's only advertisers have been lower-tier brands that could not have earned Fox News as much revenue as the upper-level brands—thus turning a show that should have been a top earner into a financial liability.

Together, we've succeeded in doing something very important. We've helped hammer home the message that deception and race-baiting are not acceptable for a "news" network and that everyday people will hold accountable those who are responsible.

Beck will remain with Fox News Channel as a producer, and we'll be watching for what might come from that. And we'll continue to push back on Fox's race-baiting problem, which of course goes beyond Beck. But today's victory is important: Beck's voice, his incessant conspiracy theories, his dangerous incitement to violence, his casual race-baiting—all of these will be gone from television by year's end. And that's something for which we should all be proud.

We want to thank CREDO, Media Matters, MoveOn.org, and StopBeck—all of whom played critical roles in the effort. But more than anyone, we want to thank YOU, our members, who helped us win this important victory. We couldn't have done it without you.
